Seventy-five long years have separated the Bengali people on two sides of an international border. Kamruzzaman Balark and Moulinath Ganguly, both accomplished theatre actor-directors; one Bangladesh born and the other from India, join forces with eminent theatre director Zahid Repon from Bangladesh.

In Achalayatan (The Petrified Place), Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless play about stagnation from rigid beliefs and practices, they find parallels in today’s intolerant, conflicted world. With a bunch of theatrenerds, they set off to stage Achalayatan beyond the boundaries of their divided origin, in Australia.

Could cultural reunification mend the schism left by the historical division of Bengal?

Sankhajit Biswas studied Editing at Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata and participated at the Berlinale Talent Campus 2010. Films edited by Sankha have been awarded and screened at major film festivals including Berlin, Toronto, London, Busan, Rotterdam, IDFA, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, IFFI Goa, etc.

Sankha has also directed documentaries that are screened at CPH:DOX, Yamagata, DocPoint Helsinki, MAMI and won awards at Kolkata International Film Festival, IDSFFK and Signs Film Festival Kerala.
