In God We Trust is a documentary on The Troyers, a family that belongs to the Amish community in Sugarcreek, Holmes county, Ohio. An outsider’s inside view of an Amish family that opens up their home to her. It is an attempt to understand the Amish way of life through this family. The film captures the life, the philosophies and simple joys of the Troyer family in Sugarcreek, Ohio and through them understand the Amish as a choice and a way of life.

Filmed over three years between 2015 and 2017 in rural Ohio, it was completed in 2024.

Uma Vangal Shivakumar is a Chennai based filmmaker, Film professor, Film curator, Film scholar and Public speaker. She has. deep interest in documenting lives and livelihoods. She teaches and researches on film making and film studies in The International Institute of Film & Culture and Asian College of Journalism Chennai, India and at the Kenyon College, Ohio. She is currently working on reverse gaze in documentary filmmaking.
